Beautiful Late 19th century Rudall Carte& Co Flute made in London. Instrument is made of Grenadilla wood in excellent shape without any cracks. Flute has just been complete overhauled with all new quality pads and corks and is in perfect playing shape. Head Joint is fully lined. Key work is German silver, overall length of this flute is 26 inch(660 mm) and the sounding/ acoustic length is 22 ¾ + inches(580 mm) Flute has a lovely rich tone and plays extremely well. Radcliff(1843–1917) was an English flutist and inventor(1870) of the'Radcliff system' flute, a simplification of the Carte system of 1851. It was manufactured in London by Rudall, Rose and Carte. And then by Rudall Carte& Co. The Radcliff system flute differs from the Carte 1851 system in that it had a closed G#more acceptable to players of the old flute—and did not have the'open D' of the Carte(where all fingers off sounds d' and the thumb is left on its key for c' In spite of the closed G# the high e' is correctly vented, with only the A hole open. The pads appear to be in decent shape. There is a crack in the head. But the body and barrel are free from cracks. The pipe below the head is not cracked, only the outer cover.
